1997 Olympic XL
Classic looks with the low maintenance
of fiberglass hull, this1993 speedster
has a deep V hull with full stringers for
high speed stability, and the vintage
looks of high glossed mahogany and ash
fore deck and walkbys, dash and gunwales,
and mahogany cabin sole throughout
- powered with a big Mercury 150 hp
(1995/ rebuilt carbs: all receipts) that
sends this rock solid ride to 50 mph!
That means from Port Townsend to
Shilshole marina and Rays Boathouse for
lunch in 55 minutes - (first picture is
just that, at Shilshole during lunch at
Rays!), or Port Townsend to Friday
Harbor, San Juan Island in 55 minutes. Or
you can use the auxiliary 5 hp Mercury
(2006) for slow end trolling, or the 8'
spruce oars for drift fishing.
Simply put this is a go fast heavily
built boat that will go through 1' chop
at 30 mph with coffee cups sitting on the
dash with no feel of slap on the hull as
she cuts a smooth path. Quite remarkable.
Get to where you want to go fast, or run
from oncoming weather.
The deck, dash, and gunwales are 1.25"
thick, the transom well is 1.75" thick,
and the transom itself is 3" thick.
Bright work finished with 4 coats
Interlux Sealer and 6 coats Flagship
Exterior Varnish. (Bulletproof!)
Hull maintained with Turtle Wax
Polishing compound and Meguairs Carnuba
wax after each outing.
Bottom paint for anti-fouling on hull
and lower unit on motor
We tow "Oh Pauline" (with a Jeep
Cherokee -mid size.) on a beautiful dual
axle EZ loader trailer (2006) with disc
brakes, retractable stern lock downs,
mags wheels, break away tongue for easy
garage storage, and is flawless. The boat
also has a custom padded Sunbrella cover
that makes dock moorage no problem. Also
included are covers for both outboards.
Always stored in a heated garage.
A list of additional equipment
includes serious Straits of Juan De Fuca
safety gear including a self inflating
Viking life raft with canopy in a valise
(stored under the foredeck) along twin
full flotation dry survival suits, plus a
Ditch bag with Epirb, flare gun and
flares, distress flag, air horn, and ICOM
portable VHF radio.
She has a serious Danforth anchor on a
substantial nylon road, (stored under the
fore deck) and a lunch hook as well. The
aft seating area opens to a large storage
area (for the safety gear) and provides
access to the twin AGM batteries in
plastic tie down cases, a battery
selector switch, large oil reservoir, and
three automatic Rule bilge pumps on float
switches - each with its own thru hull
for overboard pumping.
The deck has over-sized chrome over
bronze chocks fore and aft, stern cleats,
and vintage bow mooring cleat, along with
bow running light, and stern light on the
flag staff like a vintage Chris Craft.
Further equipment is dash mounted fuel
gauge, tac, speedo, Garmin GPS, teak cup
holders with a pair of vintage wooden
dice for luck, and a Marine type USCG 8
lb dash mounted fire extinguisher.
The bucket seats are perfect, and the
windshield is glass on metal frame with
no marks or cracks. The mahogany floor
overlay has anti-fatigue mats, removable
for cleaning, and extra portable seat
cushions for rear seating if
required.
She also has a water separator fuel
filter, dual locking mechanisms on the 5
hp, and faux leopard covers for the
custom wood steering wheel and GPS, fore
deck crystal prism (sends light into the
life raft/anchor hold), power tilt, rear
view mirror, fenders and mooring lines,
and chrome over bronze engine cowl
vents.
This is the best riding small boat I
have ever been on, and I have 50 years of
boating.) I am finally ending my boating
career and invite you to see boat in
heated garage storage at your
convenience.
