1986 Hunter 28.5
1986 Hunter 28.5 rigged and ready for
sailing. The boat trims up nicely in the
wind. It can point high into weather with
good performance and picks up speed
quickly for it's size. There are few
items that need some work but overall the
boat is in good condition.
2 cabin top winches (one needs to be
rebuilt) at the companion way for
hoisting sales, 4 main winches for
foresail sheets. All controls at the
cockpit for single handed sailing
Mainsail with 2 reef points in very
good condition. Stack pack needs repairs.
Recently installed Pro-Furl C290. 2
Asymetric spinakers, one light weather
(has a small tear) and one moderate
weather, and a telescoping whisker
pole
15 hp Yanmar Diesel (2GMF20) is in
good condition and well maintained -
regular oil changes, filters and
impellers replaced, etc. Recent work on
fuel system: injectors removed and
cleaned, fuel lines bleed, fuel tank
cleaned, and injector pump rebuilt. I
have receipts for this and all other
work.
Binimi is only 2 years
old, Signet instrumentation - Depth,
speed, anonometer, and
windvane. Folding Clamshell
Propellor. Running water with water
heated from engine heat. 5 gallon
holding tank with full functioning
head. Full working galley with 2
burner alcohol stove. Cushions and
fabric for settee and births in excellent
condition. Cabin sole needs some
work. Draft - 5 ft 2in (fin keel)
Currently the boat is in a charter
fleet at Bay Area Sailing School at
Sacketts Sailing Center in Kemah, Texas.
In the last 7 months, the boat has made
an average of $181 a month in charter
revenue (I have statements). If you keep
the boat in the fleet, the cost of the
boat and all expenses, including slip
fees are tax deductible.
I’ve had the boat in the charter fleet
for 2 1/2 years and it’s worked well. The
boat makes decent income, which helps
offset the slip fees, and I get to sail
her when I want. But I live in Dallas and
I just don’t have the time to drive to
Kemah and sail as often as I thought I
would.
