1980 Vagabond Center Cockpit
This vessel was custom built as the
personal yacht for Buddy West, President
of Vagabond Yacht Corporation, back in
the early 80’s. Buddy West named
her WEST WIND VI and sold her to a
gentleman in Michigan who changed her
name to WINDSWEPT. He owned her for
quite a few years and and then put her
away in heated storage for the last eight
years that he owned her. The third
owner kept her in Sister Bay, WI and
changed her name to BLACK PEARL. He
sailed her for a few years and then took
her to Milwaukee and put her in heated
storage for the last six years that he
owned her.
This vessel was purchased in 2015 by
its current owner who invested over
$50,000 in upgrades and improvements both
mechanical and electronic and hundreds of
hours of associated labor. The
current owner is an experienced sailing
individual who was a partner in Lyons
Yacht Works in Michigan, one of six
worldwide Hans Christian dealers. He sold
and commissioned sailing vessels up to
forty-eight feet in length.
He is also an Industrial Designer which
gives him the vision and ability to
design and build what this vessel aspires
to.
The current owner is a very detail
driven individual with an engineering
mind who has meticulously focused on the
mechanical and electronic upgrades and
replacements throughout this
vessel. Where work was done below
the floor level, everything was sanded
and painted. When a ceiling panel
was removed, it was spray painted with
AwlGrip and the teak trim pieces were
sanded, stained and refinished.
The current owner loves this boat and
is reluctantly selling this vessel
because of getting older and looking for
smaller projects.
